Pug Training - Tips for training your new Pug!

Pug Training Tips

Pug training should start really soon after you bring your new pug home.

First, give your pug lots of love and attention and show your puppy around its new home and yard.

Then from that moment forward, clearly give your pug behavioral training that will help him and you get along for years to come.

However, don't forget that your pug may have a short attention span - so keep the training sessions short but do them often.

Pug training can be relatively easy. Pugs are not difficult but they can tend to be stubborn, which will require some patience during pug obedience training.

Pugs are people pleasing dogs and they love attention. You can use that trait to your advantage during training. They also love to eat treats - so you can employ dog treats as rewards when your pug follows through with a command.

Pug potty training is not much different than most puppy house breaking. We have found that pug crate training is the best solution.

Your pug is like all other dogs in one sense and that is that dogs are den animals and want to keep their den or home clean. A crates helps to simulate a den and your pug will work it's hardest to not mess in the crate.

To help your pug learn you must be an active participant in the process and you must remember to be punctual and scheduled and take your dog out to go potty regularly. As your pug goes to the bathroom, say a bridge (training) word like poop or something you would not say in normal conversation.

After a few weeks of consistently following a schedule of potty breaks outside away from the crate, your pug will learn that word means potty and learn outside is where it's done.

The crate is a healthy protective place for your pug puppy. He will have his own little room to be alone in and feel safe. It also will build confidence in him. And it will also teach him how to control his bladder and to go to the restroom on a healthy schedule.
